With many BBE employees in the Philippines, we watched in horror as Typhoon Rai battered the islands, causing more than 400 deaths and displacing more than 300,000 residents, many of whom were still trying to recover from last year’s storms.
As a “Super Typhoon” (winds exceeding 120 mph), Rai’s effect were devastating, wrecking countless homes and cutting off access to water, food, and power. With the infrastructure so heavily damaged, authorities have estimated that it could be months before power and supplies are restored.
Our hearts are broken for our employees and all Philippines residents affected by this destructive storm. We are grateful for the resources to assist in the recovery. Our executives rallied quickly to deliver aid, leveraging our contacts in the U.S. and Philippines. While local government organizations and other charities were still assessing the damage, we had already delivered the following:
- Bottles of water (1,500)
- Water purification bottles (100)
- Water purification tablets (10,000)
- Mass water purification systems (20)
- Water filters (1,000)
- Emergency kits with food (1,000)
With the help of several other Utah-based businesses, we are leading efforts to send water, food, and emergency supplies to over 1,000 people in the Cebu area. We are also initiating efforts to rebuild homes destroyed by the super typhoon.
How You Can Help
We welcome donations to this pressing cause through our GoFundMe account. While we have been able to meet many needs, there are plenty ahead as we work to help our friends in the Philippines in a time of great difficulty.
